History

In July 2001, Wahlert High School and all Dubuque Catholic Elementary Schools and the Catholic Early Childhood Centers, joined to become a system called Holy Family Catholic Schools.  This was done so that our Catholic schools could continue to strive towards the goal of making our Catholic elementary and secondary schools available, accessible, and affordable to all Catholic parents and their children, while providing an exceptional educational experience for our young people—one that is both truly Catholic and of the highest academic quality.

Our Catholic schools afford the fullest and best opportunity to realize the fourfold purpose of Christian education, namely to provide an atmosphere in which the Gospel message is proclaimed, community in Christ is experienced, service to our sisters and brothers is the norm, and thanksgiving and worship of our God is cultivated.

Holy Family Catholic Schools serves children from infants through Grade 12.  At the beginning of the 2007-08 school year, our system will consist of 7 early childhood centers, 4 elementary, 1 middle and 1 high school and will employ approximately 500 employees.  We are proud of the outstanding teaching staff, support staff and volunteers that we have in our system and our ITBS scores continue to show the academic success of our students.

We at Holy Family echo the sentiments of the Catholic Bishops and offer this vision plan as a roadmap to a successful future for Catholic Schools in the city of Dubuque.  It is our hope that this plan will allow for that legacy to flourish and continue on for generations to come.  We understand the magnitude of the task at hand, and commit ourselves to its success.
