To ensure an optimal experience for our campers, each camp has a minimum enrollment that must be reached by June 1. If a camp has not reached its target enrollment, you will be notified by Holy Family, and your fee will be refunded or may be applied to another camp. All camp registrations are 50 percent non-refundable. If a parent cancels at least 10 days prior to camp starting, they will be refunded 50 percent of the camp fee. If a cancellation occurs within 10 days of the camp start date, the entire camp fee will be forfeited.

Art Extravaganza

Step right into the Art Extravaganza, where every day is a new adventure in creativity! Get ready to dive into a whirlwind of colors, textures, and inspiration as we explore a different medium each day. Be prepared to be enchanted by the stories and techniques of renowned artists as we unravel their masterpieces and draw inspiration from their journeys. And what’s a journey without a keepsake to cherish? At the end of the week, we’ll gather our creations and bind them together into an amazing book!

Babysitting Basics

Be the sitter every parent wants to call! Learn all the responsibilities that go along with babysitting, what families expect, how to care for children of different ages, games and play ideas, basic first aid, safety, and how to handle emergencies.

Captured on Canvas Art Academy

The Captured on Canvas Art Academy will take you step by step on the way to creating a great art piece. Mercedes Pfab, owner of Captured on Canvas, will guide you, teaching art techniques and style! No prior experience needed; just bring yourself and a great attitude! First through third graders will complete two - 9x12 canvases step-by-step. Fourth through sixth graders will complete a 9x12 canvas and a 16x20 canvas. One-day campers will create a painting on wood.

Children's Acting Camp

Does your child love playing pretend? Do they spend the day acting like an animal, a favorite person, or pretending to do a special job? Is their favorite center the dramatic play area? Enjoy the love of the stage and pretend to play at our theater summer camp. Kids will explore and express different emotions, characters, actions, and make-believe. They will also put on a short play, practice teamwork skills, sing, dance, and have fun!

The Golden Eagles Boys Basketball Camp will reinforce proper fundamentals essential to the complete basketball player. Cross Country Camp

Introduction to Lacrosse

The Clarke University Director of Lacrosse, Tucker La Belle, will be offering a week of lacrosse instruction. The camp will focus on fundamentals and learning through lacrosse activities/play. Campers will be divided into age and skill-appropriate groups to ensure the optimal balance of fun, challenge and skill development. This is for all skill levels of lacrosse, or even for those who have never played before. Both boys and girls are welcome!

Come and join the Wahlert Catholic Golden Eagles Volleyball team for a summer of volleyball fun! The Golden Eagles Volleyball Camp will teach and reinforce the essential skills and fundamentals of volleyball. Individual and group instruction will be given to campers in the areas of passing, setting, serving, attacking, blocking, offense and defense. The Golden Eagles Volleyball League will not only reinforce volleyball fundamentals but will also give participants the opportunity to play in competitive games and matches.

Harry Potter Camp

Calling all Harry Potter fans! This immersive camp will give your child a chance to dive into the wizarding world of Harry Potter. Your child will feel like a young witch or wizard at Hogwarts, practicing potions (i.e., fun science experiments), playing quidditch, and participating in creative writing activities. We will also enjoy Harry Potter-themed snacks. The goal of this camp is to allow students to deepen their knowledge of the magical world of Harry Potter. Will we have a sorting hat? Of course. Literacy Camp with Clarke University

Designed to build fluency and comprehension, this summer camp is full of reading fun and adventure. Under the instruction of the Education Department at Clarke University, this camp will help all students maintain reading skills over the summer. Clarke Education students and instructors will take the literacy needs of all students into consideration. Whether you’re looking for skills-based strategies for a reluctant or emerging reader or a new, fun way to stretch the imagination of your enthusiastic reader, this camp is a good fit.

Nature Scavenger Hunt

Do you like to explore the outdoors? Well, me too! After going on the hunt we will talk about the different items we all saw and look at how they are the same and different! We will even bring some items in to practice our five senses!

3D Printing Workshop

Do you have an interest in 3D printing? Would you like to design and learn to print 3D objects? Campers will receive instruction on how to 3D model and how to 3D print small objects using Tinkercad website. Campers will need email access. Campers will create a Tinkercad account (free). On Monday, students will learn how to 3D model and create a simple object to print. On Wednesday, students will create a more complex object to print. On Friday, there will be an open house showcase of the printed items. (The days between camp dates are to allow for 3D printing of objects.)

LEGO Brick Masters

Are you interested in LEGOs and enjoy building and manipulating LEGO sets? This camp teaches math and physics while using everyone’s favorite LEGO blocks! Finch Bot Workshop

Students will learn the basics of block programming using a Finch Bot. On day one, students will program Finch to move, make music, and basic shapes: circle, square, and triangle. On day three, students will program Finch to run “sprints” and follow an obstacle course. The Wahlert FTC Robotics team will assist with instruction.

Robotics Programming Camp – FTC

Wahlert Catholic High School Robotics teams host this FIRST TECH® Challenge Robotics Camp. Campers will learn to program, build and drive a robot through an obstacle course. This camp would be ideal for those with experience in First LEGO® League or an interest in robots. FIRST TECH® Challenge is the next or high school level of LEGO® League. Campers are divided into teams led by a high school robotics team mentor. Teams will use a robot kit to complete an autonomous (programmed Java-based) period, a free-drive period obstacle course, and finish with the final challenge task. A match lasts 3 minutes. The final session day will be the robotic competition with friends and families invited to watch.

Clarke University Education Department includes Clarke Education Department professors and Clarke students who are working toward a reading endorsement or a Master’s Degree in reading.

 

Tianna Baird is a first-grade teacher at St. Columbkille. She has her Elementary Education degree from Loras College. She loves to dance, go on hikes, and is involved with community theatre.

 

Lindsey Beaves is the head coach of the Wahlert volleyball team. She won three straight state championships as a player from 2001-2003. In her coaching career, she has lead the Golden Eagles for a total of nine seasons including three state championship titles from 2016-2018

 

Tim Berning is the chemistry teacher and head coach of the varsity girls cross country team. Mr. Berning is also head varsity track and field coach at Wahlert Catholic High School. Over the past 10 years, 28 different individuals and 14 relays have become state champions, they have also earned two team state championships, two runner-ups, and a third-place finish at the Iowa state track and field meet.

 

Riley Collins is a current Religion teacher at Wahlert Catholic High School. He is the head women's tennis coach at Wahert Catholic. He also coaches 7th grade football and JV girl's basketball! He graduated from Wahlert in 2018 and won two state championships as a player for the men's tennis program.

 

Amy Decker is the K-12 Education Coordinator for Iowa State Extension & Outreach, Dubuque County. Amy provides educational programs and experiences for youth in the following priority areas: STEM, Leadership, Healthy Living, and Communication & the Arts.

 

Tom English is the Wahlert Catholic High School varsity boys basketball coach and athletic director. He has been coaching basketball at Wahlert Catholic for more than 25 years. The Golden Eagles have reached the state tournament six times in his tenure, including state championships in 2008, 2014, and 2015 and state runner-up in 2016.

 

Owen Funke is the Youth Programming Coordinator at Holy Family Catholic Schools. He graduated from Loras College in 2022 after graduating from Wahlert Catholic in 2018. He is an assistant varsity baseball coach at Wahlert Catholic. He enjoys taking sports photographs in his spare time of the Duhawks and Golden Eagles in action and spending time with his nephew and two nieces.

 

Savannah Johnson is the Wahlert Catholic High School varsity head coach for girls soccer. She was the assistant coach for the 2021 State tournament qualifying season. She is a current member of the Four Final placing soccer team at Loras College.

 

Lucy Klavitter is a Gryffindor and an incoming freshman at Wahlert Catholic High School. She loves to play volleyball, read, bake, and spend time outside. She is so excited to help lead the Harry Potter Camp!

 

Ava Kramer is a Hufflepuff and an incoming freshman at Wahlert Catholic High School. Ava is a big animal lover, and loves to draw. She can't wait to help out the Harry Potter Camp this year!

 

Tucker La Belle is the head lacrosse coach and director of lacrosse at Clarke University. He is all all-time leading goal scorer in program history and is entering his second season as head coach for the Pride.

 

Deidre Lattner is the head cheerleading coach at Wahlert Catholic High School. She will be going into her fourth year coaching and has led the girls to place in the top 5 at the cheerleading state championships.

 

Jamie Marshall is entering his fifth year as the head football coach at Wahlert Catholic. He spent the previous 18 years coaching college football at Drake University, Montana State University, and Lindenwood University. He also teaches math at Wahlert Catholic and coaches middle school basketball at Mazzucchelli. Coach Marshall is a 1995 graduate of Wahlert Catholic High School.

 

Mia McDermott is a Slytherin and incoming freshman at Wahlert Catholic High School. Mia loves to act, play sports, and ready in her free time. She can't wait to share her love of Harry Potter with the campers!

 

Bob Oberfoell currently teaches a variety of science classes at Wahlert Catholic High School. Mr. Oberfoell coached this year's Wahlert Catholic state qualifying FTC Robotics team "Shmizmin." The team placed in the Top 12 making it to the semifinal alliance match at the State competition this year AND were named in the Top 5 (taking second place of 48 teams!) for Robot Design.

 

Jess Ochoa is currently an associate at Our Lady of Guadalupe Spanish Immersion School. In her free time, she enjoys making art as well as fitness and the outdoors.

 

Callie Orabutt is the 6th grade religion teacher at Mazzuchelli Catholic Middle School. She loves to be outside exploring nature or reading awesome books. She loves to learn new things and as a million questions, it's no surprise she is a proud member of Ravenclaw house! Even though she isn't a Gryffindor, she hopes to be half as cool as Professor McGonagall one day!

 

Mercedes Pfab is the owner/operator of Captured on Canvas in Dubuque. She works to create a fun and creative atmosphere. She loves to help people discover their creativity one-step at a time!

 

Kris Spiegler has been the Wahlert Catholic girls basketball coach for 15 years, serving as an assistant coach for six years before that. Her team was MVC champs in 2009 and 2012, and she has taken her team to state four years. Coach Spiegler and her staff also earned MVC coach of the year honors for the Mississippi Division in 2009 and 2012. Current team members and various members of the coaching staff will also assist with the camp.
