Despite weather delays, Central Campus renovation work has come a long way since summer, and we are grateful to see continued progress on the Inspiring Spaces vision.
One of the most significant changes is the transformation of the outdoor athletics area north of campus. Grading is now complete, and the new water retention basin was well tested by September’s 10 inches of rainfall. The football field has been raised approximately 8 feet, with another 14 inches of rock to be added in preparation for field turf.
Crews have also been carefully terracing the property behind the school to make the most of the available space. The design will step down gradually from the back entrance area to tennis, then softball and finally baseball at the far north end of campus. This work is helping create the foundation for a more functional, efficient and student-centered athletics complex.
This fall, crews will begin constructing the baseball and softball backstops, bringing those fields another step closer to taking shape.
Work is also moving forward on the new auditorium. Footings have been poured for the orchestra pit, and our team is also working through plans for interior finishes that will help shape the look and feel of this important gathering space. The months ahead will bring significant progress, with all hands on deck this fall and winter and the goal of having auditorium walls erected by Christmas and the roof in place by spring.
