Spanish is the official language of 20 nations and is spoken by more than 300 million worldwide. The 2000 U.S. Census data shows that nearly 1 in 5 Americans speaks a language other than English at home, and the vast majority speak Spanish. The number of Spanish speakers in America more than doubled between 1990 and 2000, so that Spanish-speakers in America now outnumber the entire population of Canada.

The Our Lady of Guadalupe Spanish Immersion Program allows students to gain insights into other cultures and build connections with the global community. As they learn a second language, students simultaneously begin to appreciate the diverse world in which we live. America is a key player in the global economy. By educating children to be bilingual and multi-cultural, the Our Lady program provides students with specialized tools for success as they become adults in the global marketplace.

While the first of its kind in Iowa, Our Lady of Guadalupe is just one of hundreds of similar, innovative programs implemented nationwide in the last 30 years, many boasting long wait-lists and/or lotteries for admission. The Our Lady program promotes academic excellence, intellectual curiosity, and cultural understanding in a rich, Christian environment.
